Places to visit in Devon with a toddler: Sunshine Edition
As a mum to a lively toddler, I’ve quickly discovered that Devon is full of exciting adventures just waiting to be had—especially with a little one in tow! From sandy beaches to friendly farm animals, there’s something here for every little explorer (and their grown-ups). Whether you’re a local looking for fresh inspiration or visiting on holiday, I hope this list helps you make the most of this beautiful corner of the world.
A toddler’s paradise with lots of soft sand, gentle waves, and plenty of space to dig, run, and paddle. Ideal at low tide! There is a toy library for you to borrow and return beach toys after a great day on the beach so don’t worry if you forget to bring yours!
Fantastic for sandcastles and family strolls along the wide esplanade. Bring scooters or balance bikes, enjoy a picnic from Rise Bakery, and grab a great coffee from Hang Time.
Cuddle miniature pigs, bottle-feed lambs, and enjoy tractor rides, soft play, and animal encounters—perfect for younger children.
Tipton St John Playing Field
A hidden gem with a playground, grassy picnic area, and shallow river for paddling. End the day with a pit stop at the Golden Lion’s sunny beer garden.
Hire bikes (with toddler seats or trailers) from Exmouth Cycle Hire and cycle a flat, scenic path along the water. Stop in Topsham or Starcross for lunch. A fun way to mix fresh air and exercise.
From goat walking and animal feeding to vintage vehicles and indoor play areas, this attraction is a toddler treasure trove, with something for everyone.
If you are looking for accommodation in this beautiful area, Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays have a beautiful range of properties in Sidmouth, Exmouth & Topsham, and Beer & Branscombe. Some have cots, high chairs & stair gates provided which will be listed in the attributes, alternatively contact us if you need to hire a travel cot or highchair for your booking.
